“Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion” is the formal title of laypeople who distribute the Eucharist during Mass. As the title implies, there are also “ordinary ministers” - those who are literally “ordained” to the ministry namely bishops, priests, and deacons.
Purpose: The purpose of the Extraordinary Ministers Of Holy Communion is to assist the Clergy in distributing the Eucharist during Mass, to the sick, homebound and those in Institutions that are part of the Community.
Mission: To be prayerful people filled with the desire and commitment to not only be partakers of Christ Body and Blood, but to show reverence and love of the Eucharist. By living this call, lead the Community to a deeper love for Christ in the Blessed Sacraments.
Vision: Present day conditions require that access to Holy Communion should be made possible to all the Church Community. Such things as size of the Parish, lack of transportation, being homebound, being hospitalized, any number of circumstances make it impossible for these parishioners to attend Mass. The sheer volume of needs also makes it difficult for the Clergy to attend to every single person that wants to receive Holy Communion outside of Mass. Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Communion are to be the hands and feet that aid the clergy in this joyful task of bringing Christ to the Community
